Deliveries to cold, even arctic conditions do not scare Nordic water field expert. Abundant snowfalls and great temperature changes from hot weather of +30 Celsius degrees to cold of -50 degree Celsius have to be considered in the designing phase of the water treatment equipment already. Moreover, the time of delivery has to be chosen so that the equipment can be installed in the warm time of the year.
An example of an excellent structure, which is suitable for arctic cold conditions, is Slamex’s radial flow sedimentation tanks’ wading wheel-solution.
In a regular structure, the problem arises when ice and snow accumulate on the clarifier’s drive track. Therefore, snow sweeper is installed in front of the carriage, which sweeps the snow away from the drive track, while at the same time the carriage rolls the clarifier.
In harsh Nordic conditions, snow sweeper is not always enough, and heating systems are needed for the drive track. However, installing and using the heating systems is not always problem free, and they consume much electricity.
Slamex’s wading wheel-solution replaces the snow sweeper and heating systems, because the water exits from the basin over the drive track. Thus, the drive track stays constantly melt and free of snow. Wagon’s wheel moves or rather wades in water. Both the building costs and operating costs are much more inexpensive than a sweeper and heating systems.
For now, the wading wheel solution is not known in Russia. Our Russian customer became interested in the solution, since we could respond to our customers most important needs, which were saving costs, and reliability of the equipment even in winter conditions. After the first successful pilots, the customer was so satisfied that the following clarifiers were ordered with the wading wheel-mechanism.
