Why invest in China now?

Previous Next

Due to fast growth and low environmental capacity, China is now experiencing severe pollution. More than 2/3 of rivers and lakes are polluted. Thus, China invests on cleantech more than the total investment of U.S.A. and the Europe.

This is also a chance for Finland to export finnish know-how on cleantech abroad.

The annual investment on cleantech in China is about 269 billion USD in 2016. By 2020, investment on cleantech sector is estimated to reach 1432 billion USD.

13th Five Year Plan of China started on 2016, and it focuses on environmental protection, water treatment, and especially industrial wastewater treatment. Annual industrial wastewater discharge in China was about 20 billion tons. The main driving factors are the implementation of the higher standard on discharge of industrial wastewater and integrated industrial park planning. It is predicted that by the end of 2017, the major industrial parks will have their centralized wastewater plants constructed.

China is focused on upgrading its industries, especially the Paper & Pulp, Textile Dyeing, Food Production & Processing and Pharmacy Production areas. In order to do that, the Chinese are looking for high quality technology, which could meet their upgraded standards.

Need, demand, and standards are all high.

Finnish industrial wastewater treatment and reuse are technically in high level especially in industries, such as, pulp & paper, and mining & metallurgy. Emerging areas, such as, decentralised water and wastewater collection and reuse, water recycling and desalination, as well as sludge management offer promising opportunities for Finnish companies.

Finnish expertise and know-how in those areas can be a good match for the high demand in Chinese market. Finding niche areas and approaching the market with successful strategies is vital for tapping into China’s water market. Careful planning and researching are the keys.
